Lento

About the product

Lento is a monthly publication that focuses on long-form narratives, aiming to foster deep reflections and develop complex concepts through immersive texts.
This project is a collaboration between la diaria and The New York Review of Books.

My contributions

I led the design project for the digital relaunch of Lento, overseeing everything from the initial concept to final implementation.
My focus was on user experience, ensuring smooth interaction between the product and the technical team. I worked closely with the editorial team to translate the essence of the publication into its web version.

Since this was a relaunch of an enhanced edition, the project was developed in two key phases:

First Phase: Attracting New Subscribers

In this initial stage, the primary goal was to attract new subscribers and inform the existing La Diaria audience about the relaunch of Lento in collaboration with The New York Review of Books. We designed email campaigns directing users to a micro-landing page with a signup form, where the project was introduced and users were invited to receive the first issue. This strategy proved successful, resulting in a significant increase in subscriptions to the print edition.

Second Phase: Developing the Web Counterpart

The next challenge was to create a web version that clearly differentiated itself from the traditional La Diaria structure, positioning Lento as a new product. We explored new design patterns while maintaining overall consistency within the platform. Collaborating with the editorial team, we designed an intuitive user flow that guided subscribers from the landing page to the articles, ensuring seamless navigation.

To reflect the flexibility present in the print editions, we created a version of the landing page that allows for brand color modifications through variables. This added an extra challenge: working with the print team to develop accessible color palettes. We conducted extensive testing to ensure that no color combinations presented contrast issues.

Maintaining the business logic, Lento’s content is exclusive to subscribers. Therefore, each view was designed considering both free and paid users, creating dynamic components that adapt according to the user type.
